Do you welcome Monday morning? We love saying TGIF (Thank God it’s Friday), but what about TGIM?
Does Monday have to be dreary and gray? No, it does not. But sometimes it is. I usually like Mondays, because I enjoy the work I do. And, as a busy parent weekends can be rather over-scheduled with activities and expectations, so when Monday comes, I enjoy returning to work routines. If I can, I do not schedule clients on Monday mornings because this is the time I catch up on my own development and my business. Checking-in with where I am at and where I am going.
One cold spring morning in March was different though . Waking up to a cold, dark and rainy day with little energy. Even our two cats seemed slow-moving. And my two teenagers reluctantly got ready for school complaining about the cold while counting down for summer break. We all craved sun and warmth.
How do you find motivation on a cold and rainy Monday morning?
After driving my daughter to school, I struggled with two choices before heading to work for a first client call: have a third cup of coffee with something sweet (my weakness), or 15 minutes on my stationary bike in the basement.
Today the bike won, it does not always do so.
I grabbed my phone as I started pedaling away and found a podcast with Simon Sinek about finding our WHY. Perfect combination of topic and exercise. Simon reminded me why I’ve chosen to be a coach and facilitator and why I love it so. Why I love Mondays. My purpose is to inspire and help others find their purpose and overcome whatever is keeping them down or from being better at what they do.
The brief and brisk session on the bike gave enough of an endorphin rush to help me skip the chocolate and head to work with some more spring in my step. Healthy routines helps us stay motivated when the day is rainy and cold. The chocolate I saved for my coffee at work :).
